Network

If you are running StockManager on a network and wish to access centralised data from a number of PCs, you will have to configure each computer and StockManager to allow this.

You can set up any number of computers to be available for StockManager. However, the two important computers are the one you are currently on and the one where the data resides.

When you start StockManager and it cannot find the computer you want to access, it will use the data on your own computer.

Go through the process below for each of the computers that you want run StockManager on.

  1. Using MS Windows and its networking functions, you must set up the C disk on each machine to be Share-able and give it a network drive letter.

  2. Add a new computer to the list of networked PCs.

  3. Give it an ID. This ID defines the order that the computers will appear in the drop-down box on the configuration screen.

  4. Give it a name. This should be something meaningful. It could be the name of the person that normally uses that machine.

  5. Type in the path to the Stocks folder on that computer. This will be a combination of the network drive letter you has assigned together with the \stocks folder.

  6. Select which computer on the network you want to use for your outlet data by ticking the appropriate box.
    You can also press a 'Y' to select a computer or a 'N' to deselect it.


Administration Password

You can only get into Administration if you know the password.

This password is also used to limit access to previous audits on the home screen and the Cumulative figures on the Setup screen.

To change the password, type in your existing password and then type in the new password first to define it and second to confirm it.

You can leave the password blank in which case you will not be prompted for it and the above options will be available without security.


Company Details

The Company Information consists of your company's name, address, phone number etc.

Your company name has already been configured into the system and you cannot change it. It is shown on a grey background to indicate this.

You can put in as many details as you wish.

These details will be displayed/printed on the following reports :

    Valuation Certificate
    Front Page
    Invoice

It might be useful to include the letters "Tel:" before your telephone number so that the finished report is presentable. Similarly for Fax, Mobile and E-mail.

The VAT rate is the rate applied to your invoice to your client.

The VAT number and Cheque name can appear on the Invoice report.


Preferences

StockManager provides a number of features which can be configured to suit the way you want to work.

Outlets Sort allows you to set whether the drop-down lists of outlets are sorted in numerical order or in alphabetical order.

Report Zoom allows you to specify the zoom-level of reports displayed on the screen.

Hand Held is the default unit for hand-held counting.

CSV format for spreadsheet means that any reports you produce will be output to CSV files. These can be found in the CSV sub-folder within the Stocks8 folder.

End of Year Days Warning allows you to vary the number of days before/after a client's end of year when the warning will be displayed.

End of Quarter Days Warning allows you to vary the number of days before/after a client's end of quarter when the warning will be displayed.

Help Program must be set up as the program which will be used to display Help (what you are looking at now!)

Report Program must be set up as the program which will be used to display log files. These are created by Check Database, Remote Links, etc.


Stocktakes Report

This report contains a list of your selected outlets along with the dates of the last liquor and food stocktakes.

For an outlet to be 'selected', you must include some text in the first box of General Notes on the Outlet Details screen.
